Just because the daughter-in-law failed to align the fish head with the elder when serving it, the father-in-law publically asserted his authority. Her husband, Chen Fan, defended his wife on the spot and severed ties. Late that night, an aunt called with a buried secret: Chen Fan and his cousin Chen Hao had been swapped at birth. Chen Fan was actually the heir of a wealthy merchant, and the entire inheritance left by his biological parents had been usurped by his adoptive parents to provide for their own biological son. At the father's sixtieth birthday banquet, Chen Fan brought all the evidence to expose the truth in public, reclaim his identity and assets, and return to a peaceful life with his wife.
