Awang is an unemployed, impoverished youth from the village who meets Xiaomei, a wealthy urban woman, through an online chat. Their relationship quickly blossoms into romance. Xiaomei warmly invites Awang to visit her in the city. On their very first day together, she takes him to a beauty salon where he is conned out of 60,000 yuan—a scam meticulously orchestrated by Xiaomei. Beset by ill fortune, Awang leaves her behind only to encounter money launderers at an internet café, suffer a traffic accident while delivering takeout for which the platform refuses compensation, and get fired as a model security guard after a homeowner falsely accuses his sexual orientation. After clawing his way out of endless hardships, Awang finally establishes himself in the city by live-streaming and spreading positive energy.
