Addicted gambler and deadbeat Lin Ziyi is reborn in 1992, right when his wife Shen Nian is on the verge of a breakdown. Armed with memories from his future life, he turns the unwanted crayfish crawling in drainage ditches into a blockbuster thirteen-spice delicacy, rising from a night market stall all the way to a giant food corporation. He fights greedy relatives, punishes shady vendors, cracks down on cross-province counterfeits, and refuses massive foreign acquisition buyouts to protect the national brand. Turning over a new leaf, he devotes everything to make up for his past debts, protecting his wife and saving his sister. From a despised deadbeat to the richest man in the city, he seizes wealth and family happiness in the surging waves of the nineties.
