Shen Yan returns to Qingwa Village from afar, only to find the ancestral terraced fields abandoned due to drought. He wants to channel mountain springs and change the rice seeds to revive the barren land. Su He is the village's most skilled farming maiden, who insists on traditional rotation methods and is convinced Shen Yan is making a mess of things. The two make a wager limited to one season: if the new method succeeds, Su He will accompany him in expanding the planting; if it fails, Shen Yan will bow his head and learn the old ways. Digging ditches, guarding water, controlling pests, and racing to harvest, they argue and grow closer between the ridges and granaries, finally turning the barren fields into golden waves.
