Zhang Tiezhu, a barbecue stall owner, unexpectedly travels through time and becomes the puppet emperor of the Great Yue Dynasty in name only. At court, the Empress Dowager holds all power, maternal relatives and powerful ministers form deep cliques, decades of systemic abuses plague the court, and severe flooding breaks out across the land, leaving countless people homeless. The original host was weak and constantly manipulated, struggling at every turn. But with a brand-new soul, Zhang Tiezhu—armed with his fiery Northeastern dialect—drops all pretenses! In the Cold Palace, he unexpectedly meets Lin Wanru, an ER doctor and fellow Northeasterner who also traveled across time. Strangers from the modern era, they forge an ironclad alliance in a palace rife with danger, looking out for and supporting each other.
