In the 1990s, Chen Village suffered a disaster and food shortages. Chen Jianjun went into the mountains to dig for wild vegetables and was attacked by a rabid wild boar. He was saved by a mother dog. The injured mother dog entrusted her cub to Chen Jianjun. After Chen Jianjun brought the cub home, Dahuang and Yaya grew up together. When Yaya went to the mountains to pick ganoderma and encountered a wolf, she was saved by Dahuang. Instead, his mother Wang Guiying falsely accused Dahuang, and Chen Jianjun also stopped trusting Dahuang. Sister-in-law Xu Xiulan gave up the ancestral home in exchange for Dahuang's life. Wang Guiying accidentally killed Chen Jianjun, swept away all valuables, and fled overnight, only to meet her end in the jaws of wolves on her escape route.
