Zhang Qingshan, an honest and straightforward bodyguard from Northeast China, travels to Zhonghai on his grandfather's orders to protect Bai Wanqing, the eldest daughter of the Bai family. Though he looks rustic, he possesses extraordinary divine fist techniques and the power of the Heavenly Meridian. He is a formidable martial artist and a skilled physician. Bai Wanqing becomes embroiled in a family power struggle as her uncle, Bai Jianye, hires assassins and uses poison to seize the family fortune. Meanwhile, the mysterious organization Underworld establishes a Dragon-Locking Formation to covet Zhang Qingshan's Heavenly Meridian. Zhang Qingshan defeats powerful enemies and helps Bai Wanqing secure her position as chairwoman. Both Bai Wanqing and Gu Qinglan fall in love with him, but a restriction on his Heavenly Meridian forbids him from being intimate with women before the age of thirty. Eventually, with the help of Old Master Bai, he and Bai Wanqing register their marriage. When Underworld experts launch a sudden attack on Bai Wanqing, Zhang Qingshan rushes to her aid, leaving the story on a suspenseful cliffhanger.
