Sun Laifu, a hunter by trade, becomes obsessed with capturing a legendary red fox said to bring immense fortune, hoping it will lift his family out of poverty and cure his infertility. Repeatedly setting traps in vain, he becomes the laughingstock of the village, pushing his wife Guilan to demand a divorce. Just as their marriage hits rock bottom, Guilan ultimately chooses to stand by him on one last hunt. Facing the wounded fox, she persuades him to let go of his obsession and sow good karma for their future children. Awakened by her words, Laifu spares the animal, only for the spiritual fox to repay him with a bag of gold. Reconciled and blessed with a new home and a baby boy, they realize true fortune lies not in taking, but in kindness and mutual devotion.
