During a famine in the Dayong Dynasty, the sixty-year-old Xu Ruiqing is cruelly driven out into a snowstorm by her venomous eldest daughter-in-law, Ma Jinhua. On the brink of freezing to death, she is rescued by the kindhearted lame hunter Shi Dashan and his wife. Relying on her exceptional wisdom and medical skills, Xu Ruiqing heals Dashan's crippled leg, cures the critically ill Shi Bao'er, and leads the entire village to dig up kudzu roots to survive the famine. Along the way, she repeatedly foils malicious schemes of poisoning and slander plotted by Ma Jinhua and her cronies, earning the revered title of "Lucky Star Grandmother" from the villagers. Ultimately, Xu Ruiqing's youngest son, General Zhaoyong Su Zhenbang, makes a triumphant return from the war to punish the villains, allowing Xu Ruiqing, Dashan's family, and the whole village to embrace a peaceful and prosperous life.
