The impoverished Niqiu Ge catches an injured Mud Immortal—an ancient yellow eel of the Daqing River. The Mud Immortal willingly offers drops of its spiritual blood, turning them into scarlet blood amber to help him clear his debts. Driven by greed, Niqiu Ge breaks his vow, taking up a blade to force more spiritual blood in hopes of sudden wealth. The forcefully extracted blood amber turns into useless stone, leaving him deeply in debt. The kind-hearted youth Shitou rescues the dying Mud Immortal. Good and evil inevitably reap what they sow: the greedy suffers under heavy debt, while the benevolent earns blessings.
