Burning Contract Beneath Inkstone
Xie Linyuan, a modern-day auditor, opens his eyes to find himself reborn as the sole surviving orphan of the Xie family, whose entire household was slaughtered by the powerful minister Pei Chongshan. Trapped in a side courtyard of the Pei residence, he is forced to serve as an accounting slave. Shen Zhiwei, the Pei family's adopted daughter, appears gentle and obedient, but her parents were also killed by Pei Chongshan. The two form an alliance over an old account book bearing hidden markings. Xie Linyuan investigates the fraudulent accounts while Shen Zhiwei steals the keys. Using Nanny Liu's testimony and Shopkeeper Zhou's contract documents, they switch the ledgers in the library and set a trap in the medicine pavilion. In the end, they burn the contract at the Moon-Viewing Terrace and expose the crimes. Revenge is not about ending someone's life with a single strike, but about making the power-hungry lose everything in front of everyone.
