That Lamp in the Window Grille
Young paper-cutting artist Lin Zhao created a new street view for an old street exhibition, but the final stroke cut off the lamp's connection. She thought her master Shen He opposed innovation, and even wanted to use a transparent protective cover to hide the break. Neighbor Uncle Qiao talked about the crooked stool under the window, the lamp waiting for people, and the returning swallows, making her realize she only cut the street view and failed to keep the people in the street. Through sample practice and recomposition, Lin Zhao turned the connection into a windowsill, letting the new work stand completely in the exhibition hall. She honestly stated her failure, and also brought the first neighbor who wanted to learn paper-cutting back to the studio. The ending features passing paper to continue teaching, completing the transition from being taught to being able to teach.
