Liu Bang entered Guanzhong first and made the Three Chapters of Law. Xiang Yu broke through the pass in fury, and at the Feast at Hong Gate, Liu Bang narrowly escaped with the aid of Zhang Liang and Fan Kuai. Xiang Yu enfeoffed the lords and banished Liu Bang to Hanzhong. Liu Bang appointed Han Xin as Commander-in-Chief, openly repaired the plank roads while secretly crossing at Chencang, and pacified the Three Qins. Seizing the opportunity while Xiang Yu attacked Qi, Liu Bang captured Pengcheng, only to be crushed by Xiang Yu's thirty thousand elite cavalry. Han Xin marched north, broke Zhao in a battle with backs to the river, drowned Long Ju in the Wei River, and pacified Qi. After peace was brokered at the Hong Canal, Liu Bang followed Zhang Liang's counsel to pursue Xiang Yu. After the defeat at Guling, he granted titles to Han Xin and Peng Yue to form an encirclement at Gaixia. Surrounded by Chu songs on all sides, Xiang Yu broke out and committed suicide at the Wu River. Liu Bang ascended the throne as Emperor, consolidated unification, rested and replenished the people, laying the foundation for the Han Dynasty's enduring peace and stability.
