Marquis of the Northern Border Shen Ce commands three hundred thousand iron cavalry to guard the frontier, his only concern being his younger sister Shen Lingyi, who entered the palace as Empress. Unexpectedly, she is deposed and persecuted by Noble Consort Su Wanning and Prime Minister Su Huaiyuan, starving and freezing to death over three days in the Cold Palace. Overcome with grief and fury, Shen Ce defies all counsel, leading his army south to breach the imperial city and exact blood vengeance from the tyrannical Emperor Xiao Heng and his faction. Eliminating the treacherous officials and punishing the despot, he brings an end to the turmoil. He then joins forces with the Empress Dowager, who had been under house arrest for years, to enthrone the Ninth Prince Xiao Zhao, who once received kindness from Shen Lingyi. As Prince Regent, Shen Ce reforms the court, suppresses vassal rebellions, repels invading Xiongnu forces, and safeguards the realm.
