The nuclear detonation to suppress the volcanic eruptions failed completely. Tens of thousands of dormant volcanoes across the globe erupted in a chain reaction, plunging Earth into an eternal frozen polar night of -70 degrees. Strong acid black snow swallowed the continents, steel turned brittle, and civilization was reset to zero in an instant. The once strictly guarded official mega-shelters turned into tombs due to madness and poisoning. Across the wasteland, mutated ecosystems spread, and freezing hunger drove the remaining humans into fanatics far more bloodthirsty than monsters. "The dark cannot freeze hope; humanity never walks alone."
