Old Beijing swallow kite intangible cultural heritage artisan Zhang Benchchu has a stubborn and old-fashioned personality. His daughter Zhang Xi brings her foreign family back to China to live together, and friction constantly arises between the grandfather and grandchildren over life and concepts. Zhang Benchchu makes an Iron Man swallow kite to attract young people, but it draws online criticism for "ruining the intangible cultural heritage"; subsequently, his granddaughter Angela accidentally falls and gets injured while trying to retrieve a kite, plunging him into self-doubt and leading him to destroy his lifelong work with his own hands. The family does not give up the craft, using digital technology to curate a swallow-themed exhibition, resolving the conflict between tradition and modernity and allowing the swallow kite to regain its vitality amidst the fireworks of the hutongs.
