Diligent and down-to-earth home renovation foreman Zhou Mingyuan faithfully hands over his entire salary to his household year after year, yet finds himself stretched too thin to even buy a 50-yuan pair of work shoes. Their marriage steadily crumbles across an insurmountable gulf of values. At work, a water leak breaks out on a project under his watch. Though it was never his craftsmanship at fault, upper management pressures him to take the fall. Having weathered the demise of his marriage, workplace sabotage, and the trials of starting anew, Zhou Mingyuan stays true to himself, taking his small workshop all the way to a full-fledged construction firm. Leaving past marital regrets behind, he summons the courage to embrace his feelings for his first love, Ye Lan.
