Chronicle of the Dowry Scandal's Exposure
Shen Shujun married into the Lou family sixteen years ago. Her husband, Lou Jinghuai, faked his death, while her in-laws and younger sister, Shen Jiarou, pressured her to donate her entire dowry. They even wanted to take away the title of County Lady belonging to her adult adopted daughter, Shen Chaoyang. Pretending to agree, Shen Shujun secretly retrieves Chaoyang, who is being held captive at a weaving workshop in Baihua Alley. While secretly investigating Meiyuan Garden at night, she overhears a conspiracy revealing that Lou Jinghuai faked his death, deceived her to obtain her dowry, and colluded with the enemy. When an imperial decree arrives at the residence, she lures Lou Jinghuai into exposing himself in front of everyone and produces irrefutable evidence of his treason, bringing charges of deceiving the emperor and betraying the country against him. In the end, she takes her dowry back to the Shen family, donates silver to the genuine soldiers defending the northern border, regains control of the imperial merchant business, and begins a new life with Chaoyang.
