Years ago, Wang Cheng, Yang Gang, and Fourth Uncle were digging ginseng in the mountains when a landslide struck, pinning Wang Cheng and Fourth Uncle beneath a fallen tree. Yang Gang chose to rescue the critically injured Fourth Uncle first, leaving Wang Cheng permanently disabled in his left leg. Later, Liu Xiaoli, whom both men loved, married Yang Gang. Consumed by resentment, Wang Cheng believed Yang Gang had deliberately crippled him to steal his love. Years later, with Yang Gang and his wife living in the city, Wang Cheng turns his grudge toward their son, Yang Fan, who has returned to the village. Exploiting the rumor of a dead infant in the dry well and the madness of Li Ying, Wang Cheng orchestrates terrifying incidents to torment Yang Fan. In truth, Yang Gang had always felt guilty and secretly sent money to Wang Cheng for years. It is only when Fourth Uncle reveals the whole truth that Wang Cheng's long-standing misunderstanding is finally resolved.
