Shen Qinghe funded the construction of an irrigation weir dam out of her own pocket to resolve the village's dry-season water shortage, only to have Zhang Lamei lie on the ground to block the construction and demand 260,000 yuan in compensation. Facing extortion and rumors, she insisted on making the accounts public and spent money to reroute the canal, letting clear water flow into the villagers' fields. Spitefully refusing to pay for her own connection, Zhang Lamei watched her crops wither and ruined her son's engagement by hiding the truth. Blaming Qinghe, she sabotaged the sluice gate on a rainy night, but was caught on surveillance, ultimately having to sell her jewelry to pay for the damages.
