First-Rank Lady of the State of Qian
Adapted from the central story of the Tang dynasty legend The Tale of Li Wa, this drama is set in the fictional Great Sheng Dynasty. Lu Yan, the only son of the Marquis of Qinghe, travels to the capital and meets Li Wa, a qin musician registered as a courtesan. He falls into a scam and is reduced to destitution, becoming a funeral dirge singer and nearly losing his life under his father's brutal punishment. Li Wa takes the initiative to save him three times: she cuts her hair to buy her freedom, teaches him the qin and supports him financially, and stays by his side as he studies for and passes the imperial examinations. Together, they break through class prejudice, achieve father-son reconciliation, clear the injustices of the past, and grow together toward a happy ending.

Adaptada do núcleo da lenda da dinastia Tang A História de Li Wa, a série decorre na fictícia dinastia Dasheng. Lu Yan, filho único do marquês de Qinghe, viaja até à capital e conhece Li Wa, uma tocadora de qin inscrita no registo das cortesãs. Cai numa armadilha e acaba na miséria, tornando-se cantor de canções fúnebres e ficando à beira da morte devido aos cruéis açoites do pai. Li Wa toma a iniciativa de o salvar por três vezes: corta o cabelo para resgatar a própria liberdade, ensina-lhe a tocar qin e sustenta-o, acompanhando-o também nos estudos até conseguir aprovação nos exames imperiais. Juntos, ultrapassam os preconceitos de classe, alcançam a reconciliação entre pai e filho, fazem justiça às injustiças do passado e crescem lado a lado até um final feliz.
