In 2000, in Qingshiwan Village, Xu Haisheng is schemed against by his cousin Xu Dayong and his fiancée Fang Yumei, who conspire to push him off the pier. After suffering a head injury, he becomes mentally impaired and is taken in out of kindness by Lin Xiulan, a widowed villager. Three years later, Xu Haisheng falls into the sea again while protecting Lin Xiulan, accidentally awakening the remnant soul of the Azure Dragon of the East Sea. En el año 2000, en la aldea de Qingshiwan, Xu Haisheng es empujado al mar desde el muelle por una conspiración de su primo Xu Dayong y su prometida Fang Yumei. Tras golpearse la cabeza, pierde la razón y acaba siendo acogido bondadosamente por Lin Xiulan, una viuda del pueblo. Tres años después, Xu Haisheng vuelve a caer al mar mientras protege a Lin Xiulan y, por accidente, despierta el alma residual del Dragón Azul del Mar del Este. Así hereda los poderes del clan de los dragones, entre ellos controlar el agua, detectar bancos de peces y curar heridas.
