During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, wounded young Red Army soldier Yu Tiezhu is taken in by the couple Ge Erni. When traitor Chief Liu brings Japanese troops to inspect outsiders, the elderly couple sends their granddaughter Ge Liuzhu to her grandmother's house and falsely claims that Tiezhu is their granddaughter. When Japanese troops garrison the village, a deranged Japanese soldier befriends Ge Erni. The old couple uses this cover to protect the young Red Army soldier and steal the blueprints of the armory. When Japanese soldiers return to investigate, Ge Liuzhu steps forward to take the punishment for him, and Yu Tiezhu kills the enemy. The Ge family sets traps to delay the enemy force until reinforcements arrive and annihilate them all. After braving hardships and perils, Ge Liuzhu resolves to join the army, demonstrating the heartfelt loyalty of soldiers and civilians fighting against aggression.
