Lu Jing was originally a part-time designated driver and a security guard for Haitong Group, with an ordinary family background and burdened by family debts. During one designated driving job, he drove the intoxicated Bai Qiansusu and others back to a villa, accidentally getting injured and bleeding, which awakened the Earth Core Gourd worn around Lu Jing's neck. Sealed inside the gourd was Bai Qiansusu (the Earth Core Demon Venerable), who had been trapped in the gourd for many years, and the gourd recognized Lu Jing as its master. Bai Qiansusu saw that Lu Jing's character was passable, took him as her disciple, taught him the Source of Qi, and instructed him in martial arts, cultivation, and medical arts. While growing stronger, Lu Jing helped his master find a way to lift the seal, while using the medical skills he learned to make money to repay debts, protect his family, and make friends such as Fang Nan and Mu Xiaoyao.
