In Xifeng Temple, Jiuquan, Gansu, during the late Qing Dynasty, a scholar traveled far to the provincial capital for the imperial examinations, but encountered the abolition of the imperial examination system and returned home in distress. Through twists and turns, he acquired folk skills in healing and exorcising evil spirits. Here, there are both traditional Chinese medicine principles of saving lives, intertwined with local ghost and deity legends and folk beliefs. Rooted in a village in Northwest China, he depended on and stayed together with the villagers. Through the turbulent storms of chaotic times, oppressed by harsh officials and plagued by bandits, he used his skills to navigate the secular world, fighting against officials and contending with bandits. This land experienced the turbulence of the late Qing Dynasty and the smoke of war, welcomed land reform and liberation into a new life, walked through special turbulent years, welcomed reform and opening up, and continues right up to the present day.
