Beneath the Elevator
An aging residential community is preparing to install an elevator, but Li Ping, a first-floor resident, casts the only opposing vote, drawing criticism from her neighbors. Many residents on the upper floors are eager for construction to begin. Most people assume Li Ping simply objects because the elevator would block natural light from her home. However, the truth is far more complicated. Mother and daughter organize years of preserved footage and communication records, gradually piecing together the full story. As public opinion begins to shift, a long-standing dispute over the allocation of housing by their former work unit comes to light. When the controversy finally settles, the relevant issues are properly resolved according to regulations. The best way for neighbors to get along is to put themselves in each other's shoes and respect one another's boundaries.
