Shen Huai, head chef of a renowned private kitchen in Haicheng, is stripped of his annual bonus by Jin Mao, an incompetent new director who enforces bureaucratic rules. Without shouting or storming off, Shen Huai simply clocks out strictly on time and adheres rigidly to protocol. Deprived of his secret recipes and precise heat control, the kitchen suffers continuous blunders, VIPs overturn tables in fury, and massive investments are pushed to the brink of collapse. Only then does everyone realize that without Shen Huai, the restaurant cannot survive.
