Jiang Mian, an academic underachiever with D-rank psionic power, became the laughingstock of the academy after asking "where is the drive shaft" in her very first practical mecha class. Clueless about the advanced mechas worth 800,000 credits driven purely by mental energy, she charted her own course: collecting dining trays from the cafeteria and scavenging parts from the scrapyard. Assembling a ragtag team of "underachievers" from logistics and meteorology classes, she hand-built a diesel-powered mecha named "Iron Smoke." Amid campus-wide ridicule and 50-to-1 betting odds, she piloted this steel beast in a combat test, completely dominating the high-tech mechas crippled by interference fields.
