Zhen Fugui, the wealthy young heir of the capital's richest family, is forced to cross-dress and enter the palace concubine selection in place of his runaway sister. Hoping to get expelled by slacking off, he instead uses his staggering fortune to dominate harem politics. From rebuking strict matrons to outwitting noble consorts, he accidentally swerves into becoming sworn brothers with the incognito Emperor and wins the heart of the Prime Minister's talented daughter, Li Shiwei. While others scheme for imperial favor, he donates gold and finances the military to help the Emperor purge corrupt ministers. Staging his own death to shed his concubine persona, he reemerges as a first-rank imperial merchant—wandering the world with riches and romance in hand.
