Chunzhi, an orphan girl selling tofu, is abandoned by her fiancé Lu Jingyun after he becomes the top imperial scholar. On a rainy night, she rescues a critically wounded, unconscious man named Huo Qi (Huo Zheng). To escape the government's mandatory marriage decree, the two enter into a sham marriage. Living under the same roof, feelings blossom between them, but Huo Zheng's true identity as the Prince of Chang'an is accidentally revealed. Heartbroken after overhearing his harsh words calling her "just a plaything", Chunzhi jumps into the river. Rescued by wealthy merchant Song Anlan, she attempts to live in hiding while pregnant, only for Huo Zheng to search across mountains and rivers for her, aggressively storming her wedding to snatch her back, launching an angsty romance torn by status, love, and hatred.
