Peeling Eggs to Test for Ghosts
Xiu'e said, "You are a man-eating evil ghost," and Great-grandma gave her two candy balls to make her stay alone. At dinner, Xiu'e was missing, and Third Aunt searched the whole village in vain. My grandma said Great-grandma smelled of blood, and a basin of pig-slaughtering blood in the storage room was completely gone. Late at night, I peeked through the window and heard the crunching sound of chewing coming from the west room. The next day, Yuanbao was found in Great-grandma's cabinet, along with Xiu'e's blood-stained clothes. Great-grandma stood at the door, her teeth long and sharp.
