Fisherman Gu Haichuan fell into the sea to save his father and remained in a coma for three years. The Gu family planned to sell his wife and daughter to pay off debts. On the verge of death, Gu Haichuan was helped by the Cangming Dragon Lord whom he saved back then, initiating the soul-returning trial through the Gates of the Underworld. Upon waking up, he protected his wife Lin Qiuyue and their two daughters, broke ties and split the household with his partial father and elder brother, led his family to make a hard living, established a sea-catch mutual aid team, balanced seafood processing business against the continuous scheming of the Gu family's eldest branch, and pursued the Outer Sea Black Shark gang that laid down the Dragon-Locking Hook to guard the Qingsha Bay sea area and his family and villagers.
