Eighties: Forced to Leave with Nothing, One Iron Ladle Ventures into Pengcheng
Five years at the kitchen stove, a single letter of divorce. To marry the manager's daughter, Cao Zhiqiang forced Su Wantang to leave with nothing, not even allowing her to take her kitchen knives. She signed and walked away, leaving only the words, "The recipe is left for you; the most important things are never on paper." Returning to the restaurant to resign, she was framed for stealing ingredients. She rolled up her right sleeve to reveal an old burn scar, using her left hand in public to write and prove her innocence. With her train ticket south clutched in her palm, her ex-husband's family chased her to the station to snatch the recipe; she publicly burned the manuscript, saying, "The formula is on my tongue." Eighty-six yuan in wages, a pair of left-handed knife skills, the penniless cook ventures into Pengcheng. What abyss will that family, who snatched the recipe, be sent into by the very things they stole?
