Su Qinghe, a Chinese language teacher, agrees to go on a blind date after her mother and the matchmaker repeatedly urge her to do so. However, she soon finds herself caught in the suffocating and dysfunctional family dynamics of her prospective match, Lin Yan. Lin Yan's mother, Zhang Guilan, and his aunt, Lin Xiu, treat the blind date like an interview to screen for an obedient daughter-in-law, subjecting Su Qinghe to endless questioning before imposing three family rules on her. Although Lin Yan longs for independence, years of psychological control have left him repeatedly backing down and compromising. Su Qinghe, however, stands firm in her principles. After seeing the Lin family's extreme possessiveness and unreasonable schemes for what they are, she calmly breaks free, refusing to become the savior of a puppet controlled by others, and sets out to build an independent and fulfilling life of her own.
