In the forty-first year of Jiajing (1562), the Flying Dragon Country established by Zhang Lian was besieged by the Ming army of Fujian, Guangdong, and Jiangxi provinces commanded by Yu Dayou. The main force was defeated and all strongholds were lost. Zhang Lian survived by luck, rallying the remaining soldiers and soldiers and civilians who were unwilling to surrender. With no way out by land, he resolved to go to sea to survive. The remnants of the Flying Dragon, carrying their families and supplies, crossed the South China Sea with the monsoon, avoided the Ming army's patrols, and arrived at Srivijaya in Nanyang (now Palembang, Sumatra). This place was far from the Ming Dynasty's control and had developed commerce and trade.
