Returning from an incognito tour, the Emperor insists on taking the stunning Chen Shuang as his Empress, even threatening abdication. The Empress Dowager tries everything to stop him, for Chen Shuang is her illegitimate daughter raised in Jiangnan, making the two maternal half-siblings. Once the Emperor leaves, Chen Shuang leaps into the Empress Dowager's arms, producing several banned romantic novels detailing the Empress Dowager's affairs with prominent court officials and naively asking who her real father is, plunging the Empress Dowager into utter embarrassment.
