A He's parents passed away, and she lives with her older brother and sister-in-law. Her sister-in-law has a sharp and fiery temper, and A He is worn down and tormented by Wang Guixiang every single day. One day, while going up the mountain to cut grass, she runs into a black bear chasing and trying to kill her. In her panic and desperate flight, she falls into a hidden mountain cave. Just as she is about to be slapped to death by the bear's paw, the phoenix Xuanyi—who has been locked in the cave by mysterious iron chains for nearly a hundred years—spouts a pillar of flame to drive back the black bear, and weakly begs for help. A He already believes what the elders in the village say about the phoenix protecting the local region, and coupled with the fact that Xuanyi just saved her life, she immediately agrees to rescue Xuanyi. Wang Guixiang develops designs on the phoenix, looking for an opportunity to trade the phoenix for money. Un día, mientras sube a la montaña a cortar hierba, se encuentra con un oso negro que la persigue para matarla. En su desesperación y huida a ciegas, cae en una cueva de montaña oculta.
