On the day Zhang Erdan is supposed to marry his bride, his future mother-in-law suddenly demands an additional 10,000 yuan in bride price. Furious, he calls off the wedding, but he cannot get back a single cent of the 60,000 yuan he worked so hard to save. With his family savings wiped out and debts piling up, he becomes the laughingstock of the entire village. Carrying his humiliation and a heavy responsibility, Erdan heads to the city to find work. From a kitchen helper to running his own street stall, he cooks, hauls bricks, and endures contempt, but he never forgets the oath he swore that day: he will make something of himself. Years later, when his restaurant empire rises, those who once looked down on him can no longer hope to measure up to him.
