Zhou Xuanjiang, a university student, transmigrates into the body of the second son of the Prime Minister of the Great Qi Dynasty. He thinks he has landed in the perfect cultivation world, only to discover that everyone has a spiritual root and can cultivate immortality, yet everyone is illiterate. Written characters are treated as talismans, and signboards are covered in misspelled words. Zhou Xuanjiang is the only one who can read, but he has neither a spiritual root nor spiritual power. He spends spirit stones to join the Fengxing Sect and makes his way through life by virtue of his literacy. He discovers the secret that ascending to become a Golden Immortal requires knowledge of written characters, and that treasures dismissed as worthless by cultivators are actually rare treasures from the spirit realm.
