Su Xia, a spice shop owner, discovers a bag of highly toxic star anise has been stolen. Wang Cuihua, greedy for a bargain, casually steals it to use as star anise for stewing meat. Su Xia warns the whole street, but to save face, she refuses to admit it, uses sugar to cover up the toxic taste, forces her husband to eat it, and even brings the toxic meat to the mahjong parlor to treat everyone. In the end, her husband is poisoned and left permanently disabled, the dashcam footage serves as irrefutable proof, and Wang Cuihua is arrested and imprisoned for endangering public safety, shattering a family. Greed and vanity ultimately brew a bitterer fruit than poison.
