Fang Zhixia, an erotic novelist stuck in a creative rut, runs into Xi Xubai, her secret crush of many years who is now a university professor. On a whim, she invites him to write a novel with her to find inspiration and relive the flutter of her youth. Xi Xubai gradually becomes immersed in her story and discovers that the novel's male lead, the target of a forced love, closely resembles himself. As they write together, their feelings keep growing; role-playing the characters of the story within the story, the two sense the stirrings of their hearts and see clearly the longing buried deep inside. In the end, slipping in and out of their roles again and again, they join hands to build the ideal love each of them had dreamed of.
