During the famine years, food supplies in Qingya Village were completely cut off. To protect the helpless and lonely Su Wan, the young Xiao Chen risked entering the perilous Black Wind Mountain to hunt for survival. Battling venomous snakes and packs of wolves, he plunged into danger time and again, relying on his hunting skills to bring back food as the two leaned on each other through the hardest days. Along the way, Xiao Chen drove off predatory local thugs, rescued Lin Xi, a refugee orphan girl, and befriended Shen Qing, a traveling physician persecuted by bullies. Together, they united to stand against the oppressive landlords and gathered evidence to bring them to justice. When the severe drought finally gave way to rain, life began to settle into peace, and Lin Xi was happily married off. Yet beneath the calm surface, past grudges had not fully vanished, and dark currents still churned in the shadows.
