Three months into her pregnancy, Huo Chen claimed that 'pregnancy affects married life' and had his childhood friend and secretary, Song Ningning, give his wife, Shen Zhi, five hundred yuan for an abortion. Shen Zhi immediately ran away with the child. Five years later, the two crossed paths again when Shen Zhi took their sick daughter to the hospital. Instigated by Song Ningning, Huo Chen believed Shen Zhi was a gold digger who squandered fifty million and returned begging for cash. He treated his ailing daughter with cold indifference, demanding that all medical expenses be approved by Song Ningning. Only after Shen Zhi took her daughter away and issued a public statement proving she had received a mere five hundred yuan did Huo Chen finally realize the truth and begin his redemption.
