While fishing by the river, Gangzi catches a rare giant fish of a century. Thrilled, he plans to cook and eat it tonight. His sister-in-law hears eerie sounds and spots blood in the water, overcome by a sinister feeling. On their way home, an old village woman warns them that the fish is pregnant with roe, and eating fish in March brings retribution. Gangzi ignores the warning and stews the fish. After eating it, bizarre events strike their home: Grandma falls ill, livestock in the yard die mysteriously, and strange fluids and fish scales start appearing everywhere.
