During the severe drought of the 1980s, the land was barren for thousands of miles. The lame old man Sun Laoguai desperately protected his purple ox, only to be ambushed and robbed by his greedy younger brother in league with a butcher. Near death from severe injuries, the purple ox awakened as the mythical Divine Purple Ox! Stomping open a dry well, the divine ox summoned sweet spring water and breathed purple mist to cultivate miraculous grains and fruits, helping Laoguai turn his desperate life around. Despite his younger brother's repeated wicked attempts to spread rumors, intercept harvests, and collude with outsiders to seize the ox, the brother ultimately faced retribution. Leading the village with his divine beast, Laoguai reclaimed wasteland into an ecological farm and turned the drought-stricken village into a province-wide model of prosperity, writing an extraordinary rural legend of the 1980s.
