Impoverished scholar Xiao Heng serendipitously met Jiang Yuniang of the Chunfeng Pavilion, and the two fell deeply in love. Yuniang gave up all the savings she had painstakingly gathered for her redemption to sponsor his journey to the capital for the imperial examinations. Three years later, Xiao Heng won first place as the Zhuangyuan. Faced with an imperial decree marrying him to a princess, he remained true to his heart, honored his past vow, and resolutely refused the decree to marry Yuniang with great pomp and ten miles of red silk. This infuriated the obsessive, jealous Ninth Princess, stoking deep malice within the imperial palace. On a freezing, snowy winter day, Yuniang was brutally murdered by shadow guards. Powerless against imperial tyranny, a desperate Xiao Heng formed a blood covenant with a nine-tailed fox demon. Harnessing demonic power and biding his time, he willingly stepped into danger, embarking on a solitary, blood-soaked path through the imperial capital to avenge his beloved wife.
