Forty-year-old delivery worker Yang Mei rescues an elderly woman, Li Sufen, who had fallen on the street. Because of the delay, she is fired and fined. Pressured by her patriarchal maiden family to pay rent and remarry, she and her daughter, along with her critically ill husband, are driven out of the house and forced to stay in a hospital hallway. The elderly woman turns out to be the mother of Zhao Shanhe, chairman of Shanhai Group. Zhao Shanhe tracks her down to offer a house, a car, and a hefty cash reward, but Yang Mei refuses to take a single cent, saying that helping others must only answer to one's conscience. Teaching herself caregiving, she founds Meixiang Home Care to take in unemployed sisters. The wicked are punished, her husband awakens, and she is accepted as a goddaughter, carving out a path where kindness truly brings good rewards.
