Extreme cold sweeps across the Northlands; heating is cut at the maintenance station, and the radio goes unanswered. Road maintenance worker Chen Mo drives an orange-and-gray emergency vehicle, carrying limited fuel, rations, and an old map as he heads south in search of a way to survive. Sinking snow, fuel shortages, and road closures follow one after another, making the rescue vehicle his only home. Yet the evacuation broadcast turns out to be a cached replay, and the brightly lit communication station is completely deserted. For whom are those still-operating machines guiding the way? Does warmth still remain in the south? With the blizzard growing fiercer, he can only repair his truck, verify every clue, and press forward.
