Herb-gatherer Lin Aoxue rescues the severely wounded Emperor Xiao Yunting while he travels in disguise. Spending a month together in a secluded mountain cave, love blossoms between them. After the Emperor returns to the palace, Lin Aoxue is forced to marry into the Wu family to ward off ill fortune and conceal her pregnancy. Eight years later, her young son Kang'er displays miraculous artistic and literary genius, only for the Wu family to steal his credit and crown their own young master, Wu Xiaofeng, as the child prodigy. When Kang'er's painting lands on Xiao Yunting's desk, it immediately reminds him of Lin Aoxue and the son he has sought for eight years. Xiao Yunting races to the Wu estate to find the painter, where Kang'er, desperately crying and begging for a doctor to save Lin Aoxue, throws himself straight into Xiao Yunting's arms.
