The first time Lin Qingyan goes home with her boyfriend to meet his family, she walks in to find her future mother-in-law alone in the kitchen, having spent two hours cooking enough food for two tables, while a house full of relatives doesn't lift a finger to help. Without a scene or a fuss, Lin Qingyan carries the main dishes out to the yard and sets up a table of their own, sits her future mother-in-law down, and pulls out her phone to record her future father-in-law as he's about to get violent, as evidence. One future daughter-in-law's separate table blows apart thirty years of the Zhao family's old rules. Because she made up her mind long ago: my mother-in-law, I've got her back!
